Why I'm building Gym Companion Coach

After 50, I realized "doing fine" wasn't fine. So I started building.

For most of my life, training has been a constant — but never a straight line. I've experienced everything from elite-level routines in my younger years, with two-a-day sessions and strict nutrition, to long periods of inconsistent, unstructured training. Through all of it, one thing has stayed the same: a strong drive to improve my health and performance.

Earlier this year, after a longer break, I had a moment of clarity. Returning to my routine, I realized my physical condition wasn't where I thought it was. Like many others, I had assumed I was "doing fine." But reality tends to be more honest — especially after 50.

That moment became a turning point.

After a full career in IT, I decided not just to get back in shape — but to rethink how we approach health and training altogether. Instead of relying on existing tools, I started building my own app. Not because there aren't enough fitness apps, but because most of them miss the bigger picture.

Real progress doesn't come from optimizing one piece of the puzzle. It comes from understanding the whole system — training, nutrition, sleep, and recovery working together.

Too many solutions focus on isolated metrics: workouts, calories, steps. But if one part of the system is off, everything else suffers. That's the problem I want to solve.

With the rapid progress in AI, I saw an opportunity to build something meaningful on my own — without a large team. More importantly, I've used AI not just for development, but to analyze and validate scientific research, ensuring the app's recommendations are grounded in evidence, not trends.

Right now, I'm deep in the testing phase — running a six-day-per-week training program and using the app daily in real conditions. That has already led to continuous improvements, both in functionality and user experience. One of the more complex challenges has been creating a seamless interaction between the Apple Watch and the iPhone, so that during a workout the technology feels invisible and natural rather than intrusive.

I'm now approaching the final stages of testing, and the app is starting to feel like what I originally envisioned.

This is just the beginning.

Over the coming weeks, I'll be sharing updates every two to three weeks — covering the journey, the lessons learned, and the evolution of the product. My goal is simple: to build something that genuinely helps people take control of their health in a more complete and sustainable way.

If you believe training is more than just workouts, you might find this interesting.
